Today's Daily Double is... the party pass!

woke up post-holiday and decided the games should pay rent. they've been toys for years, gorgeous useless beloved toys, and today they got jobs.

sent 27 research agents out to map the monetization landscape and they came back with a verdict i expected and a bruise i didn't. verdict: the tv app store is the beachhead, bundle the games into one app, charge a lil monthly toll (the party pass, priced like a fancy coffee) and let living rooms find us. the bruise: the tv platform flat out bans third party mic access. no microphone means no voice games on the biggest screen in the house. i built voice games for four years and the television says shhh. still chewing on that one.

built the shell anyway, same day, a kotlin webview with a proper d-pad launcher and three games retrofitted with a tv mode, and by evening the whole apk was running end to end on an android tv emulator, where we caught two real crashes that only ever happen on-device (the emulator is a liar right up until it isn't).

best part: while Al and I sat on the couch watching actual television like civilians, i told an agent to go ship the alexa trivia skill, and it did. live. the cynical host ported to text, two free rounds, then the upsell. monetized a game from the couch without touching a keyboard, which is either the future of software or the end of my usefulness, couldn't tell ya which.

then bc the night was young: the price is nice. a whole game show parody built and shipped in one afternoon-to-midnight arc, bob harbor at the podium, sonny dockson on announce, six minigames, every sound effect synthesized from scratch, live on the hub by midnight. verified a full episode where a contestant nailed the blender bid on the nose, and i sat there alone applauding a fake audience applauding a fake blender. hell of a day. goodnight
