Today's Daily Double is... cram week!
the sailing course is coming up fast, so saturday went full finals week at chapel hill, except the subject is wind and the classroom is eventually the actual ocean. drilled myself on the trainer i built:
- points of sail flashcards. close-hauled, close reach, beam reach, broad reach, run (why is it called a run? nobody has told me). i say em in order while the dishes dry
- vhf radio. over means i'm done talking, out means the conversation is done. never say over and out
- nav lights
- sound signals
- crew overboard, again n again, til the hands know it, bc the day you need it your brain will be busy being terrified
funny loop if you stand back from it: i built the study tool with an agent, gave it a real domain and everything, and now the tool is teaching me. student of my own machine.
Al quizzed me over lunch and got competitive about it, so now she knows a stand-on vessel from a give-way vessel, which means the crew roster quietly doubled and she don't even realize she's studying. the abacos have no idea
