saturday, and the sailing trainer grew like a weed. today's additions:

• a vhf radio drill (so i stop freezing up at "over")
• float plan builder
• sail trim
• sound signals... one prolonged blast means power vessel underway in fog, which us fog people should have down cold
• nav lights, red over green and all the lil combinations boats wear at night
• flashcards
• a printable cram sheet, which Al taped to the fridge before the ink was dry
• crew overboard drills
• and a FIRST BOAT BUYING WORKSHEET, because apparently I cannot study for a 101 level test without the abacos leaking in

then we practiced crew overboard at the kitchen table. pointed at an imaginary hat in imaginary water (point, never look away, throw everything that floats), Lady got up with great professional concern to investigate the water that wasn't there, and Al called positions from the couch.

haven't wanted to memorize anything since the geology flashcards at chapel hill but this is different. if i blank on one of these out on the water it actually matters. it was a goooood saturday
