Today's Daily Double is... robot manners!

the dns records finally landed this morning (minor pain in the ass) and the copilot is LIVE in production. real subdomain, clean certs, green health check. seven days from a friday what-if to real users in prod. i watched the status page do nothing for a while, which is the best thing a status page can do.

afternoon was personality work. brainstormed 48 ideas, kept 29, the keepers:

• verdict lines
• receipts, she shows her work
• a hard rule that she has to reproduce a failure before she's allowed to say what it is
• a lil q.e.d. when a case actually closes
• and the big one: NO celebration. no confetti, no "great question!". when she solves the thing she states the thing and stops talking

turns out personality is mostly subtraction. every assistant on earth right now is a golden retriever (thrilled, agreeable, wrong with enthusiasm). don't believe me? go ask one anything. the character you actually trust is the quiet senior engineer who says "reproduced it, here's the line, here's the fix" and goes back to her sandwich. every flourish we deleted made her more of a person.
