Today's daily double is... the ghost server!
chased a security alert into a dusty corner of the cloud account and found a ghost: an ml endpoint that has been running 24/7 for THIRTEEN MONTHS serving nobody. zero invocations. not one request. somebody stood it up for a diarization experiment ages ago and everyone walked away and the damn thing just kept running. real money too, burned in perfectly even monthly slices, which is exactly why nobody saw it, a spike gets noticed but a flat line of waste is camouflage. wrote up the rec: kill the ghost, add a check so the next one gets caught in weeks not months.
other half of the day went to figuring out what our database setup actually costs, and the punchline is tenant count. every isolated customer adds a fixed idle chunk whether they use it or not. theme of the day: go find what's burning quietly.
also answered infra emails from a very thorough customer while pretending it doesn't take me fifteen minutes of research per sentence they write (it does. every sentence)
tomorrow's todo list literally says 'teach the personas how to dougie' and i will not be elaborating
gratitude: Lady ate a giant carrot on the dock tonight while a man played accordion two boats down. crunch, wheeze, crunch, wheeze..... finest concert of the week
