Today's Daily Double is... a looooong day that ran downhill!

up at six to walk and feed Lady (she inspects the whole dock every morning like a shift supervisor), then the bus to the gym for a sauna bc a man needs to sweat before he thinks, then the bike to work, then oats n berries n tea at my desk, and from there the day just tipped forward and ran.

morning sync with a customer engineer on tracing, and I'd prepped a decision tree the night before, a lil map of every fork the conversation could take, and damn does that work. you walk in with the tree and the meeting stops being a meeting, here's your situation, take the left branch, done. deployed the migration right after.

then the big job: two dozen brand new synthetic voices landed and somebody had to make sure they can actually talk, so i ran every single one end to end through the simulator and listened to robot after robot after robot introduce itself. 22 of 24 came out clean, which in this business is a parade. except halfway through i found the staging build chain had been dead since saturday, quietly, the torch install failing with no space left on device (the saddest error in computing). filed it, routed around it with a local worktree, kept moving. you don't stop the day for a full disk.

lunch was an old buddy over for salad, technically an interview but really just two fellers who like the same problems talking fast with forks in hand. sorted him a conference badge on the way out. salad lunches with people who get it are worth three coffees.

then the long tail: validating two changes to the persona voices, one for volume one for speed, end to end with actual audio and actual decibel measurements and simulated callers talking half again fast to make sure the plumbing holds. wrapped at 10:04pm with CI green and that specific satisfaction of having proven a thing instead of just believing it.

oh and one more. stumbled on a benchmark somebody published for voice agents, real dataset, real report, and it's the exact thing i tried to build a year ago except theirs is actually good. sat with the sting for a minute. then figured hey, i was pointed at the right mountain, i just didn't have the legs yet. somebody summited, so the mountain was real.

biked home in the dark. dog, water, bed
