Today's Daily Double is... eye level with the bay!

Up early Sunday and finally remembered what the kayak is for. Richardson Bay was so still it looked ironed, and it turns out the bay is a whole different country at eye level. The anchored-out boats loom over you, halyards ticking. A harbor seal came up twenty feet off the bow and gave me the long unimpressed look they give everything. A heron on a mooring ball let me drift close enough to watch it decide I wasn't worth the flight. No phone, no numbers, just the little gurgle under the hull. Paddled back when the wind woke up and Al had the coffee going. The whole trip cost an hour
