Today's Daily Double is... pine pollen season!

it's mid april, which means back home in cary north carolina:

• the pines are dumping pollen on everything. cars, porch rails, the dog, all of it yellow-green
• you can write your name on any windshield in town
• puddles get a yellow ring around em after rain
• big 4pm thunderstorms. sky goes green-black, temp drops ten degrees, it dumps for 45 minutes, then the frogs start up

as a kid i figured every place did this. nope! that's a carolina spring specifically. my geology professors at chapel hill liked to say the piedmont is old mountains worn down to soft red clay hills (a few hundred million years of rain will do that). out here the rain just kinda mists. I do miss a good thunderstorm
