Today's Daily Double is... the day that wouldn't quit!
from first coffee to whenever i finally looked up and the bay had gone black, this one would not stop.
started with the victory lap: the worker split is DONE. last piece landed this morning, the simulation fleet minds its own queue now, the monitoring fleet minds its own, nobody starving anybody, and when the monitoring queue swelled up after the deploy i just turned the replicas up to six and watched it drain. that knob didn't exist last week. the whole surgery was so that knob could exist. turning it felt goooood.
then three customer bugs, three fixes, all before dinner:
- a customer running multiple copies of their agent couldn't tell which trace went with which phone call, so i put the phone numbers into the handshake and now every call claims its own trace
- our docs promised a rerun-the-metrics button that did not exist anywhere in the product. so i built the button. the docs weren't wrong, just early
- my favorite: a customer's transcripts were coming back pure word salad, and the root cause was that george, an english speaking test persona, had been assigned to interrogate an agent that only speaks spanish. the transcription model was doing its damndest to hear english inside the spanish and produced static instead. i have BEEN george (in a taxi, abroad). understood him immediately
and then in the evening, when a reasonable man stops, i wrote a takeover doc for a chat simulation project, weighed the approaches, picked the one that unblocks the customer fastest with zero migration, and then just... built it. 12 files, a thousand some lines, 30 new tests, a whole text conversation simulator standing up in one sitting, me and the agent passing the hammer back and forth.
and because apparently the day needed more, i also turned an analysis loose on 2690 pull requests and compiled everybody's contributions, plus (nobody asked for this) an rpg class and a myers briggs for all 15 of us. we have paladins. we have at least one warlock. i am not saying who is what.
days like this are why i do this. also why i sleep like a rock
