Today's Daily Double is... a whale off the ferry!

7am ferry, morning bun from taste of rome still warm in the bag, and the water opened up off the side of the boat and BLEW. a whale! headed north up the flat grey bay, spouted three or four times before she got too far off to follow, and the whole boat of commuters actually looked up from their phones. best april fools anybody played on me all day.

work was two bugs, both good ones. a customer's calls had 8.87 seconds of dead air sitting in the output, turned out to be one setting on the telephony side, and now it trims to 3 milliseconds (down from almost nine seconds! one setting!). the other was a text simulation dying right at its final sentence, and the culprit was a 60 second idle timer strangling the pipeline just as it got to the good part.

the only actual prank was the billing page, surprise invoice from one vendor and a monthly one from another, so i cancelled every scheduled run i had. swam half a mile after work (17 minutes, cold). still thinking about that whale
