Today's Daily Double is... a WHALE!

first morning back at work and halfway across on the ferry a whale came up off the beam and slapped its tail on the water. boom, spray, gone. years of riding this boat and I've collected herons and sea lions and the odd porpoise, but never a tail slap. welcome home i guess!

the desk was less friendly. ten days of email and slack stacked into the hundreds, and the first day back is always archaeology, digging through what shipped and what broke and what got decided in rooms you weren't in. by afternoon i was writing actual code again (plumbing for running big batches of simulated calls without them trampling each other) and the ol machine turned over and caught. ended with a beer in the sun at the ferry building bc it was too pretty out not to. back to work, me and the whale both
