Today's Daily Double is... tokyo at 4am!

jet lag is a door that opens at 4am and says get up, you're in tokyo. so i got up and went out into the cleanest 4am on earth. nobody tells you it's SILENT out there, thirty-some million people and you can hear a traffic light change. bought a HOT can of coffee from a vending machine (a hot can! from a machine! on a street corner!) and stood there drinking it while a delivery driver bowed to a completely empty street before pulling away. i have a formal complaint to file with america about the coffee thing.

then al woke and we did the day proper. shrine gates, plum blossoms just past peak (cherry buds still only thinking about it), a bowl of ramen that was goooood enough to reorganize my priorities, and a department store basement food hall that oughta be a protected site. got lost in a station the size of a small town and didn't mind. jet lag came back around for its second collection and we surrendered early.

tomorrow, more. the city doesn't run out. i checked.
