Today's Daily Double is... the silent persona!
built a thing today whose whole job is to say nothing. silent agent going well. is silent.
context: we simulate callers to stress test voice agents, and a customer wanted a caller that just... doesn't talk. dead air. the funny part is the old version, when you asked it for silence, would literally SAY "dot dot dot" out loud. the machine reading its own stage directions. now it truly holds its tongue, and watching an agent squirm against thirty seconds of nothing turns out to be one of the best tests there is, real callers go quiet all the time (thinking, driving, holding the phone up to a confused grandparent) and what an agent does with silence tells you more than what it does with words.
also shoved the big realtime work all the way to production after resolving a whole warren of review robot comments, and my hands were shooty-painy all day so the whisper mic earned its keep, talked most of the code into existence. evening was a meetup about shaving milliseconds off voice agents, caught a couple shout-outs (still feels like being called on in class in the good way), then a beer with an old friend across from city hall. home at 11:45. wife asleep, dog thumped her tail exactly once. is silent. going well.
