Today's Daily Double is... tish on the early bus!

real cold this morning, breath-cloud cold, so i took the early bus in the dark and that is how i met tish. older lady, used to live on a houseboat in sausalito until she lost it, lives in her car now, still up before dawn riding into the city to her hotel job. told me all of it matter of fact, no bid for pity anywhere in it. her phone couldn't get onto the hotel wifi and that had become a real problem (the small dumb kind that can cost a person a job) so we sat there on the dark bus and i walked her through it till it stuck. ten minutes. best work i'll do all week and it wasn't even work.

and when she heard which dock i live on she didn't miss a beat: oh, the dumpy one run by the slumlord? yes tish. that one exactly. laughed the rest of the ride.

work was a photo finish, the realtime problem again, and thank fucking fuck for my teammate bc between his heroics and my accumulated bruises a working proof of concept came together twenty minutes before the customer meeting. TWENTY minutes! and the meeting went well. now it just has to be production ready by tomorrow, but that's a mountain with a trail cut on it now.

same bus, same bay, same houseboats. some of us on the water and some of us just barely off it, and the difference is thinner than anybody wants to admit. look out for each other.
