Today's Daily Double is... the little computer that never sleeps!

monday of my last free week and i spent most of it on the mac mini, the always-on brain of the operation, hums along at four watts on a shelf and waits for me to talk to it. the dream is i'm anywhere (the ferry, the bike, some beach) and i whisper into my phone 'hey, check on the games, redeploy the troll, text al i'm running late' and the mini just does it. no laptop, no desk, no hands.

current state: it can do some tricks. it listens, it runs commands, it occasionally hears 'deploy the troll' as something concerning and asks me to repeat myself, which honestly is the correct instinct. wired up a couple more actions today and fought a permissions gremlin for a solid hour (pain in the ass) and then had the moment where i'm standing on the dock talking to my phone and the little machine inside the boat does the thing end to end, and I laughed out loud and a gull judged me.

why bother? two answers. one, my wrists filed their complaints years ago (rsi, tendonitis), so every keystroke i don't type is one i bank for the decades of typing still ahead. two, the truer one, it's just fun as hell whispering at a computer and watching stuff happen without your hands. sayCast runs the desk, someday the mini runs the life. til then i'll take the saved keystrokes. We'll see.
