sunday night, al asleep, lady asleep, whole dock asleep, and i'm up past midnight doing the thing again, scrolling sailboat listings. 38 footers. 42 footers. a center-cockpit ketch in florida with teak that needs love and a diesel of unknowable moral character. i zoom way in on galley photos, i read surveys for boats i will never see in person. somebody's dream is for sale in every one of em.
next to the laptop, the chart. the abacos, marsh harbour, hope town, the lighthouse they still light by hand. traced the route with a finger, sausalito a very long way off the left edge of the paper. the math of someday goes: sailing classes for real this year, stack up the certifications, crew on other people's boats, learn what the water actually wants from me instead of what youtube says. then me and al and one very confused german shepherd (ofc Lady is coming) across the gulf stream to where the water goes that impossible blue.
