Today's Daily Double is... the harbormaster!
rain on the bay all day, the good kind, so i mostly watched my dog sleep. Lady is seven now, ninety pounds, going gray in the muzzle, and as far as she is concerned she's the harbormaster of this dock (she files formal complaints against every sea lion that surfaces in HER water). her jobs, near as i can tell:
- escort al up the dock and back like the queen's own guard
- sit at the bow when the herons come in low, ears up, certain that THIS time she'll figure out what they are
- lean her whole weight against my leg when i've been staring at a screen too long, better timing than any pomodoro app
- sleep in the exact center of whatever room we most need to walk through
people ask what it's like keeping a big dog on a boat? it's fine. she likes it. took her up the ramp between squalls and she stood at the top with her nose into the wind for a good long while. good dog. best dog
