Today's Daily Double is... a tree on the ROOF of the boat!

there is a full-sized christmas tree on the roof of my houseboat and i am extremely pleased about it. not some lil apologetic tabletop shrub, a real committed tree, hauled down the dock past the neighbors (who have seen weirder) and hoisted up top. Al and i strung the lights and when they came on at dusk, ommgggg. stood on the dock just lookin at it for a while. our weird lil floating christmas.

we also opened all the presents that have arrived so far, bc we are adults with jobs and zero discipline. both of us going "we should save this one" while actively opening it. we'll buy each other more. this is the system and the system works.

in between i got out for a gravel ride in the headlands with a buddy of my dad's, good climber, good talker. I did eat shit once, proper gravel-in-the-palms eat shit, and lying there doing the inventory (bones fine, bike fine, dignity pending) i learned my brakes were way too loose, probably had been for weeks. tightened em after. some lessons you read about and some the earth teaches you directly, at speed.

evening went soft, a holiday party with Al's old crew, solstice stuff, candles and intentions, old friends surfacing with a brand new baby in tow. rode home banged up and full of cheese and completely happy.

three weeks till christmas. presents already open. brakes finally tight. december, man
